John Heras came to Canada at the age of 19, in 1960. His father had been in Canada for 14 years, saving enough money to bring his family over from Greece. They soon settled in the fishing village of Ladner, which was only known for duck hunting and fishing at that time. John started working on his dad’s fishing boat and loved it from the beginning. He always wanted to start his own business and in 1967 John opened the doors to our flagship retail store on West 4th Avenue, in the popular Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver. The store started selling to the public but soon realized that their products were in demand at restaurants too. From there, 7 Seas gradually became a global exporter of seafood.
Over the years, 7 Seas has grown, changed and prospered, but we remain a family-owned and operated Canadian business committed to providing great, sustainable seafood to each and every customer. In fact, John and his sons still run the business to this very day with the same level of passion with which it was started.
